Christmas Concert

My girls were in their first-ever Christmas Concert on Tuesday.

Each of their classes sang two songs.

Parents and grandparents oohed and aahed.

They were oh-so-very-cute.

Both Daddy and Gramma were able to attend (Grampum is on a work trip).
We had a potluck lunch with Miss G's class afterwards, so we got to visit, too.

Miss A and her classmates were asked to wear white tops.
She added the red tutu.
She's angelic, don't you think?
Like I said:  Angelic.
There's my Sweet A!
Miss A did not sing one note for her performance.
She sings for me at home, but on stage?  Back off!
Besides, her boots and tutu make enough of a statement, don't you think??
She did do many of the actions, though.

Their first song was:

Entre le bœuf et l’âne gris

Loose English translation:

Between the ox and the grey donkey
Sleeps, sleeps, sleeps the little son,
A thousand divine angels, a thousand seraphim
Fly around the God of love.

In Mary's arms
Sleeps, sleeps, sleeps the fruit of life,
A thousand divine angels, a thousand seraphim
Fly around the God of love.

Between the roses and lilies,
Sleeps, sleeps, sleeps the little son,
A thousand divine angels, a thousand seraphim
Fly around the God of love.

On this blessed holy day
Sleeps, sleeps, sleeps the little son,
A thousand divine angels, a thousand seraphim
Fly around the God of love.

She was a very convincing angel.
And, she kept a close watch on Mommy and her camera, crouched down in front of the first row.
Great work, Miss A!

Their second song was a Raffi song!

There Was a Little Baby
by Raffi

There was a little baby, oh my Lord.
There was a little baby, oh my Lord.
There was a little baby, oh my Lord,
Way down in Bethlehem, way down in Bethlehem.

They laid him in a manger, oh my Lord.
They laid him in a manger, oh my Lord.
They laid him in a manger, oh my Lord,
Way down in Bethlehem, way down in Bethlehem.

Shepherds gave him presents, oh my Lord.
Wise men gave him presents, oh my Lord.
And we can give him presents, oh my Lord,
Way down in Bethlehem, way down in Bethlehem.

Miss G arrived on stage with her class, and began to search for Mommy.
She was pleased as punch to see me in the front row.
"That's my Mommy."
Like they don't all know!
Miss G approaches life with enthusiasm and commitment.
She approached singing with the same enthusiasm and commitment.
She has some of her Mommy's musical ability which means:  enthusiasm.
Maybe some rhythm.
However, I'm pretty much completely tone deaf.
But, I make up for that with ENTHUSIASM!
I think Miss G is MUCH more musical than me.  I hope so.
But, her enthusiasm is undisputed.
And, of course, she took a little break to be a Doggie at the manger.

She was singing this song:

The Friendly Beasts

Old English Christmas Carol
Written By: Unknown, Copyright Unknown

Jesus our brother, kind and good
Was humbly born in a stable rude
And the friendly beasts around Him stood
Jesus our brother, kind and good.

"I," said the donkey, shaggy and brown,
"I carried His mother up hill and down;
I carried her safely to Bethlehem town."
"I," said the donkey, shaggy and brown.

"I," said the cow, all white and red
"I gave Him my manger for a bed;
I gave Him my hay to pillow His head."
"I," said the cow, all white and red.

"I," said the sheep with curly horn,
"I gave Him my wool for His blanket warm;
He wore my coat on Christmas morn."
"I," said the sheep with curly horn.

"I," said the dove from the rafters high,
"Cooed Him to sleep that He should not cry;
We cooed Him to sleep, my mate and I."
"I," said the dove from the rafters high.

"I," said the camel, yellow and black,
"Over the desert, upon my back,
I brought Him a gift in the Wise Men's pack."
"I," said the camel, yellow and black.

Jesus our brother, kind and good
Was humbly born in a stable rude
And the friendly beasts around Him stood
Jesus our brother, kind and good.

She loved the songs about Jesus' birth with all of the animals.

The second song Miss G's Kindergarten class sang was:

Away in a Manger
1800's Christmas Carol

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky,
And stay by my cradle ‘til morning is nigh.

Be near me Lord Jesus, I ask thee to stay.
Close by me forever, and love me I pray.
Bless all the dear children, in thy tender care.
And fit us for heaven to live with thee there.

At the end of the concert, all of the kids sang Happy Birthday, dear Jesus.
I'm sure He heard them.
