Waterfalls to Water Slides

DAY 7 on the Road to Yellowknife:
Thunder Bay, ON to Winnipeg, MB (704 km)
Running total:  3529.5 km (past HALFWAY!)

Thunder Bay looked a little thunder-y this morning, but the rain only fell for less than an hour while we were driving today.

Before we hit the road in earnest, we stopped at Kakabeka Falls, north of Thunder Bay, and we are so happy we did!!

Even though it added almost an hour onto the day, it was completely worth it to show the girls a large waterfall.

We were NOT disappointed!
We had a family picture taken by the falls.
There was a beautiful boardwalk that allowed you to walk "over" the falls and to the other side.  It was breathtaking!
Sweet "A" hitched a ride on Daddy shoulders (and made sure that Patchy-Patch could see the view out of her backpack).
Best stop ever.

If you are ever near Thunder Bay, check them out!
The walk made for some very happy travellers in the backseat, as a bonus.
Little "G" made a new friend.  He's five and from Nova Scotia!
Wowsers!
I tell you, they were like glue for the hour we were there.

His dad is a trucker and was taking him and his sister across Canada on a long haul.

Pretty fun!
This is the moment that sealed the deal.

"D" told "G" that he had a motorcycle (I think it's his dad's), and "G" said,

"OK!  I'm coming to your house!!  Mommy!  Daddy!  He's five and he has a motorcycle!!"
The truck was pretty exciting for them to see, too.

They thought it was really neat that they got to sleep in it!

"Mommy they live in the big truck!"

By lunch we were pretty hungry, so we stopped at a delicious truck stop.
It was a very successful stop.  The gas was a whopping $1.50!
Eli loved this touch outside the restaurant.
In case you are concerned about Twofour on the trip, don't be.

He's living it up with an excellent view and lots of snacks.

This is him stretched out like Super Bun in the back, just above the girls' heads.

He's cruisin' in style.
Before we left, my cousin Nicole prepared these surprise gifts for the girls.

They are princess purses, and the purses were filled with smaller gifts to open (girly things like rings, lip balm, hair clips, etc.).

It was a MASSIVE hit!

They loved opening them and playing with the Littlest Pet Shop toys.
We passed the Manitoba border today, and also the longitudinal centre of Canada.

Geography!!
Our hotel in Winnipeg has a super fast open water slide.

This is "G" coming out the end.

Look at the speed on her (and this is a really fast shutter speed!)!
The girls loved it.

There was a water slide in Halifax, but it was closed and dark going down, so after one turn the girls were a little anxious about trying it again.

But, we couldn't get them to stop, here.

Little "A" was more comfortable going down the slide with one of us, so I don't have a good photo of her on the slide, because I was on it with her!
Clearly, the girls are adjusting to the hotel life.

So, today we passed our halfway mark for travel time and distance.

We've seen five provinces and three time zones.

Today, we saw a dramatic drop of 36 cents in gas between western Ontario and Manitoba (it was $1.14/litre in Winnipeg)!

Tomorrow, we get to see family in Saskatoon!
