Thankful for Theatrical Girls and Beautiful Rest Stops

DAY 6 on the Road to Yellowknife:
Kapuskasing, ON to Thunder Bay, ON (620 km)
Running total: 2825.5 km

I was pretty groggy this morning, and Eli took the girls ahead of me to the hotel breakfast.

I've been battling a head cold, and the NeoCitron PM knocked me out so I could sleep... but then, getting up became the challenge.
The girls enjoy the big fluffy beds!

Apparently, the lady at the front desk said good morning to Little "G." this, naturally, meant that she was now engaged in a lengthy five-year-old fueled conversation that covered a variety of topics.

Most notably, "G" talked about a sparkly Barbie house, and how she would like to live in it, and that she could- because she is small- but that Daddy couldn't- because he is big.

The lady was very kind and kept the conversation going with prompts and questions when ever "G" stopped.

We left pretty early, because we had a long road to travel today.

The girls were exceptional this morning. Little "A" settled in with her magnet board and snuggled in her chair with Patchy-Patch.

Little "G" requested "Papa Don't Preach" (they sing Papa Don't Reach"), so we had a bit of a Madonna morning.
We took a break at a beautiful rest stop about two hours west of Kapuskasing.
It had a little creek running near it,
 and flowers to pick.
The girls followed paths and played.

The bugs were clearly starving there, and got a few good bites.

We stopped for a late lunch in Longlac, a small town about halfway between our beginning and end points for the day.

When Eli filled up for gas, he asked where we should eat.

He suggested a small Ma and Pop place called Mama Louisa.

Yum! It was the best stop we've made so far!
Mama Louisa sure knows how to cook!

The mashed potatoes were fresh and delicious.

Check out the size of the pizza pop Eli ordered!
(He had to have half packed to go.)

The girls had fun with the camera on my phone as they waited...

The girls' food arrived early, and they finished before us, but managed to amuse themselves.

Little "A" entertained us with a solo dinner theatre that included Jack (who I think might be a combination of Jack of Beanstalk fame and Jack Frost).

The plot involved finding a key, unlocking a door, calling UP to Jack and then saying, "Brrr! It's cold."

Later, both girls amused the whole restaurant with an enthusiastic game of hide-and-seek.

They are so funny.

They love the moment of discovery, and often give themselves away because they can't wait any longer.

They reuse hiding places, and "hunt" very theatrically.

We hit the road, and were rewarded with a change in scenery!
In the afternoon we had a picturesque stop by the Nipigon Lake.

The lake connects lake Superior to the Hudson Bay and has been known to have been in use for transport of goods, like the fur trade.

The last 100 km of the day was on the Terry Fox Courage Highway.

This was the last stretch of highway he was able to run before he had to end his Marathon of Hope in September 1980 because the nasty cancer that took his leg spread to his lungs.

I was sad.

I do not remember never knowing about Terry Fox's ambitious attempt to cross the country.
