Prairie Heat, Literature, and Family on the Long Road

DAY 8 on the Road to Yellowknife:
Winnipeg, MB to Saskatoon, SK (797.5 km)
Running total:  4327 km
(July 16th, for the record... we got in late!)

It's HOT in the prairies.

When we woke up this morning it was almost 30 degrees already, and Eli saw this in the parking lot:
The kickstand for this motorcycle melted into the pavement overnight, and it fell over!

C'est chaud!!
We had a very long day on the road with canola fields...
... and hay fields...
... and a stop that made the English major in me happy.

We visited a childhood home of a famous Canadian author.

Need a hint?

This is Margaret Laurence's childhood bedroom.
The house was filled with family photos, and even family photo albums.

Her mom's notes were on the back of the pictures, and even had pictures of her with her grade school teachers.
Little "A" saw all the books and got the vibe that this was like a library, so she announced, "Circle time!" when she saw this mat.
Laurence's degrees and honors were featured in one room.
The Stone Angel was heavily featured throughout the house.
The girls had fun running up and down the ramp outside the house.
We piled back into the car for more fields and the biggest blue sky you would ever see.

Eli got the hint that a wide-angle lends might be a great investment!
We entered Saskatchewan.  Our sixth province and last time zone change.

Time zone-wise, we're now three hours away from the east coast, and one hour from you west coasters.
The looooong drive lulled these sleeping beauties to a restful place.
We arrived in Saskatoon, and went to Uncle Martin's place for supper.
Thanks, Uncle Martin!!
The girls had a blast playing hide and seek in his backyard garden.
There were lots of butterflies to chase, too!
Little "G" in the screen house.
Little "A" having a super special snack:  chocolate pudding "just like at Nanny and Papa's."
Excited doesn't justify the girls' reaction to seeing a hot air balloon above Uncle Martin's house!
Me with Uncle Martin

We're going to stay two nights in Saskatoon so we can rest from the driving, and spend some time with Martin.

Tomorrow, Uncle Chris is coming to the city to visit! Yay!!
