Daddy's Christmas Present

Christmas cheer is so much fun to share!
Once school was out, the girls and I found time to make Daddy's Christmas present.

The project was Miss G's idea.

I bought regular ceramic plates at Walmart (about $2), and broke out the Sharpie markers to let the girls decorate.

They were detailed and dedicated to the project.

They take gift projects very seriously!
As permanent as the Sharpies are, mistakes can easily be corrected on the plate by using a baby wipe (or any wet cloth).

Clever Miss A discovered that all on her own!
To set the ink from the Sharpies, I baked the plates in my very messy oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
They turned out perfectly!

I am not sure if the plates would be dishwasher safe, but the ink is set enough for use or display.
The girls were SO excited to give Daddy the presents they made.

And, he LOVES them!
Miss A has lots of stars, of different colours and sizes, Rapunzel in her tower with long rainbow hair (Rapunzel is heavily featured in most of her art work at the moment.  At the top is Daddy, Miss and and a bunny (with a backwards B).
Miss G drew a purple snowman ("Wouldn't it be fun to have purple snow in Yellowknife, Mommy?") and purple snowflakes.  The black frame is completely hand drawn, and was a very important part of the project for her.

Daddy is going to display the plates at his office, which also functions as a wall-to-wall art gallery featuring his favourite little artists.

Mommy is curator of the office gallery.

How cute is that... the Girlies are sure two of a kind... Daddy must be very happy and proud to be able to showcase their beautiful artwork in his office. Great idea Mommy... they sure have a good role model in designing their art. Mom.
