On the last weekend in September, in between Eli's two back-to-back work trips, we took the girls and Papa on a bus tour around Yellowknife with another family we've met two ways...
The two men of the families work together, and their son, Mr. A, and our Miss A were in the same preschool together last year, and now I teach Mr. A!
The girls were PUMPED about the bus tour.
As children of a teacher, the girls don't get to take a bus to school, and so, of course, they covet the school bus.
This bus tour was on a school bus, which was perfectly fine with them!
Mr. A and Miss A loved giggling and playing together and bouncing from seat to seat whenever they had a chance.
Miss G totally cracked me up. When we were getting ready to leave, I told the girls they could pack their own backpacks with things to look at, read, and play with on the bus.
Miss G asked to have the Sears catalogue designated to shoes as her choice for literature.
We made a brief stop at the Ledge, but the Legislature itself was not open.
I told Miss A and Mr A that this year, THEY would get to come to the Ledge to help decorate the Christmas trees, just as Miss G did last year.
Long shadows... Greyness... it is autumn!
We stopped at the government dock in old Town, and the lake was beautiful and still.
It made Daddy miss his boat.
I don't think I told you! Eli broke his boat. Truly. It broke in the waves.
I'll tell you all about it some time. The kiln broke, and it was taking in water in two long strips down both sides of the boat.
It's under warranty, so it will be replaced before next summer, and Eli's upgraded to a slightly larger boat... funny how that happens!
At the government dock, there was an old crane with a HUGE raven's next in it!
Miss G thought that it was awesome, and really wanted a picture with it.
The next is proportional to the ravens in the North. One raven could eat Twofour our bunny in one gulp, no doubt.
The girls and I had never been up to the top of Pilot's Mountain in Old Town.
Eli took Nanny and Papa there, though!
It really was a beautiful autumn morning to see Yellowknife.
Papa said it was a decidedly different view than when he saw it in March!
The kids had lots of fun climbing around.
And, they were the first ones down the stairs!
Miss A took full advantage of having Papa on the bus and had a snuggle break with Papa and a book.
The bus tour ended at the Ski Club, and the Military Family Resource Centre (who arranged our bus trip) had a BBQ lunch, cupcake and face painting set up.
The girls were THRILLED! Miss G got a rainbow unicorn, naturally.
I have been here long enough to recognize people out and about, and I was proud to recognize and remember the first name of Lena's friend who was doing the face painting!
Miss A had a beautiful pink fish painted on her face.
Before heading back to our truck, Daddy took Miss G for a "spin" in the club's yard.
The girls had a wonderful day, and Eli and I learned lots about our new town, too.
Papa really enjoyed hearing the stories about the gold mines in town and early Yellowknife life.
