Happy Birthday, Nanny!

Nanny celebrated her birthday today in New Brunswick while we were up North, with Papa visiting, but we managed to meld the celebrations together.
The girls called Nanny in the morning, and here Miss A is laughing pretty hard at the talking card we sent Nanny with a knock-knock joke inside.

The girls totally cracked up at that card when I brought it home, and were very excited to send it to Nanny for her birthday.

They are on a knock-knock kick, right now.

"Knock. Knock."

"Who's there?"

"Senor."

"Senor, who?"

"Seen your underpants when you leaned over to blow out your candles!"

Cue hysterical laugher from the girls here.

Miss G was pretty concerned that it was Nanny's birthday and that she might not be able to eat the birthday cake if Nanny is in Miramichi and we are in Yellowknife, so I assured her that we would get a celebratory cake for Nanny later in the day.

A girl must have cake.
We took Papa on a joy ride down the only highway out of Yellowknife to see bison.

We didn't see any within an hour's drive, so we turned around.

We'll go on a longer cruise another weekend.

Meanwhile, Nanny's brother and sister-in-law (not that we count that sort of thing), took Nanny out for her birthday to the Portage (yum) and then to the waterfront to see the tall ship docked there.
Hmmm.  I bet that would be a fun boat to retire on!
Uncle Romeo and Nanny.
Watch out!  Nanny is at the helm!
It looks like they had a great day together (thank you to Aunt Karen for emailing me all the pictures).
Then, they zipped on over to Ritchie Wharf to go on a short boat cruise to Beaubear's Island.  I love that place!
Uncle Romeo laughing at Nanny's safety measures.
Aunt Karen or Uncle Romeo snapped this picture of an eagle flying overhead.

Great shot! (And, I'm glad you got a "real" camera after playing with mine, Karen.)
Later, we called Nanny to sing her Happy Birthday with the cuppy cakes we bought.

I had the 6 and 2 from Papa's birthday, and the 1 is from my birthday (because, you might remember, there was a "3" candle shortage in Yellowknife, then, too), so I improvised.
We called Nanny on the phone and I snapped pictures for her.

Happy birthday, Nanny!!
Then, Papa read the girls a bedtime story to close off Nanny's birthday.

I'm not sure how that fits, exactly, but isn't the picture cute??

The girls are reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to Papa, because they've heard it so many times before.

They really liked the part when the Very Hungry Caterpillar eats the chocolate cake... they can relate.
