Like a Boomerang, We're Going Back to Nova Scotia

DAY 1 on the Road to Nova Scotia
Yellowknife, NT to Peace River, AB (1007 km)

Today, we left Yellowknife NT to move to our new home in Nova Scotia.
We started off our big move with a very long day.
Today we drove 1007 km, which is over 11 hours of driving (not including any breaks).  We got to our destination in Peace River, AB around 10:30 pm.

We left in the morning, right after stopping at the Yellowknife sign.
This was our first picture in Yellowknife taken EXACTLY 4 years plus 1 day ago.

This is our family in 2011, arriving in Yellowknife.

We passed in our keys to our Yellowknife home the day before.

We said goodbye to 513.

And, to Grandpa and Grandma.

I am so incredibly grateful to my friends from work who selflessly gave up an evening to help me clean out the empty home!

We began the long road out of Yellowknife, looking for bison.

We stopped at the North Arm Park (Great Slave Lake), so the girls could stretch and play.

We found a fuzzy friend.

A few bison were spotted on the way.  We saw about 3 in total.

We saw many sand hill cranes on the way.

The cranes in flight.  You should hear their loud call!

We crossed the Mackenzie River over the Deh Cho Bridge, which opened during our time in Yellowknife.

Here is the ferry we took on our trip TO Yellowknife.

Fishy is along for the ride.

Alexandra Falls.  This past March, we stopped to see Alexandra Falls frozen, so we were able to show the girls the falls running.

Out of the truck, and not quite half-way to our first overnight stop.

Miss G was ecstatic to find this birds nest in a bathroom at the 60th Parallel.  It had one egg and a teeny tiny bird, just hours old!  We were careful not to get too close, but what a thing to see, especially for my bird lover.

Mama Bird (a barn sparrow) was close by, and came in to feed the baby as soon as Miss G left the stall.

Miss G was beside herself, and marched into the Visitor's Centre to tell them about the bird family.  (They already knew.)

Farewell Northwest Territories!

Hello Alberta!

Lots of sky, canola fields, cows, horses and movies (in the backseat for the girls).

This was our route on the first day of our trip!
