Learning About the Marathon of Hope

DAY 8 on the Road to Nova Scotia
Thunder Bay ON to Kapuskasing ON (618.7 km)
4330.6 km in total from Yellowknife

This morning, the girls were very excited to be able to stop at the Terry Fox Memorial and Scenic Lookout, just east of Thunder Bay, ON.
On our drive four years ago, while we drove the Terry Fox Memorial highway, we actually missed the turn off of the lookout, and it was late at night, and the girls were "poofed," as they would say.  This time, we made it a priority, and I'm actually glad we waited, because the girls really appreciated the memorial, and had run in the Terry Fox Run several times.

They also got a chance to see some of the beautiful Ontario amethyst.  The monument for Terry Fox is actually sitting on amethyst rock.

I'm proud that the girls know about such an important Canadian.

In case you've never been to the Terry Fox memorial, I took some pictures of the inscriptions, so you can read them.

"Terry Fox inspired an entire generation of Canadians with his determination and devotion and it was through his strength and commitment that he united Canadians as they have never been united before."  What a legacy.

"I believe in miracles... I have to... Because somewhere the hurting must stop."
-Terry Fox

We were really happy we made this stop.

The girls will remember it for a long time.

Eli and the girls with Lake Superior behind.

Miss G learning more about the Marathon of Hope.
143 days... a marathon each day... on one leg.
5373 km!

Later we say a snowman.

Trees, rocks...

A dinosaur.

We stopped at the very same rest stop we stopped at four years ago

I snapped this the morning we left Kapuskasing... the girls guarding the trolly in the wind while Eli goes to get the truck, and I double checked the room.

Our Route on Wednesday, July 29th.

Our route from Yellowknife, so far.
