When we came home from school last night, Twofour was having a very long sleep.
Poor Little Twofour.
Twofour certainly wasn't our longest-living bunny, but he is the bunny the girls had the strongest relationship with.
Twofour drove across the country with us, perched in his cage behind the girls so he could see the sights out the window.
Twofour loved our pit stops when he could munch on grass and bask in the sun.
He could clean a patch of grass clean down to the roots in a shockingly short amount of time, as Eli discovered the day our house in Nova Scotia was being packed up.
He kept Twofour outside so he could eat and be out of the way...
It looked like mystery crop rectangles on our side yard!
Twofour was at least as mischievous as the girls, and liked to hop up on the couch to try to take their snacks of Cheerios or corn chips, and was wonderful at cleaning up cracker crumbs on the floor.
Twofour loved the Carrot Giver (also know as the refrigerator), and usually followed me around and played in the kitchen until I gave him a carrot.
He was always ravenous and pretended that he hadn't had a carrot earlier that day or just the night before.
He was our furry son, the girls' furry brother, and he ADORED all of us, following us, playing with the girls (truly playing), and always on the quest for a snack.
The girls said some prayers for Twofour last night.
They think that Twofour probably got a great big carrot from Jesus when he got to Heaven, and they wonder if he might have wings now and be an angel bun.
But mostly, they really miss their favourite little bunny. I do, too.
It was a hard event for the girls, but they had lots of really good questions and ideas about Twofour going to heaven.
Eli was sad when I called him to tell him the news.
He was in Winnipeg, catching a flight to Edmonton last night.
Today, he's shopping in Edmonton, and flying home on the next flight to Yellowknife.
Eli, at the beginning, I think, tolerated my bunny relationships, but he was soon hooked into their companionship and loyalty, and he really will miss Twofour, too.
They had a funny relationship, and Twofour loved to hop up on Eli's big chair with him.
Eli assured me that Twofour had the best life a bun could have, with virtually unlimited carrots, lettuce and hay, lots of snuggles and attention, and a personality too big for his furry little self.
I think so, too.
We'll miss you, Twofour.
