I'm not going to comment on my lack of blogging.
I'm just going to write, because that's the best way to write. One letter at a time. Tap, tap, tap...
This is the Big Burning Thing (official name) on Great Slave Lake during the Long John Jamboree, near the Ice Castle (March Break).
The build it up and then light it on fire to watch it burn. It was fun.
Outside of the Snow King's Ice Castle on Great Slave Lake, there were some amazing ice carvings!
We hurriedly oohed and aahed because it was freakin' cold. Brr.
I'm cold just thinking about it, and it's June!
The girls had some favourites!
And, so did I!
This one made me want to have a Coca Cola.
The girls had their first chance to see fireworks (that they would remember).
It was a fantastic display!!
The summer we moved, we missed them in Halifax (we were packing and trying to sell the house), and it's impossible to have fireworks in the summer in Yellowknife because it's too bright.
Last year, I knew about the Long John Jamboree fireworks AFTER they happened.
We watched from inside Daddy's big truck parked on top the middle of Great Slave Lake with the rest of the population of Yellowknife that had not gone south for March Break.
We would have been worried about the mass on the ice, but considering this past winter was like a fashback to the Ice Age, we were not worried.
It was warm inside the truck, and your hands would freeze to metal outside in about 2 seconds.
At this time, we were SO DONE with winter, so we didn't feel like we needed to "experience" it.
Needless to say, our girls are not used to late nights out, but they really enjoyed our family expedition!
Also on March Break, we took the girls on our first family vacation via airplane.
Miss G had only ever been on a plane at 4 months when we flew to the west coast, and Miss A was still in my belly. So, neither of them remember it.
We were all very excited, and we have two perfectly behaved flying girls!
Anyone who knows Miss G knows that she is very safety conscious and respects rules.
She was the most attentive person on the plane (an possibly in the history of air travel)during the flight attentants' safety speech, and carefully followed along in the pamphlet provided.
"Mommy, did you know that there is a life raft under your seat? Isn't that handy?"
We were right next to the wings, so I got to do a mini lesson on Bernoulli's principle of flight, too, which also entertained nearby passengers.
She had the safety pamphlet memorized before we landed in Edmonton, and was dutiful in following along on every leg of our journey.
In Edmonton, we had a bit of a break between flights, so the girls got to play and Mommy got a well-deserved peppermint hot chocolate from Starbucks.
The Starbucks lady was all, "Do you want whipped cream on that?" and I was like, "Uh, YEAH! I didn't fly all this way for no whipped cream!" I mean, really, who says no to whipped cream on peppermint hot chocolate? Who says no to whipped cream EVER?
Oh, Edmonton... I never thought I would refer to you as "south," but I do. And, also, I refer to you as the closest Starbucks. Only a two hour flight or a two day drive away!
Eli and I were able to sit and relax and enjoy the girls being positively delightful.
They really are each others' best friend.
Mama's got her camera. Just pretend to smile and look. Maybe she'll go away.
Is she still there?
"Is our WestJet here yet? WestJet is awesome."
The moving sidewalk provided a LOT of entertainment.
They are so silly!
Happy traveller!
Marching along... and Kid Doggie is enjoying a little cruise.
Eventually, we landed in Prince George late at night.
Miss A couldn't last any longer.
In the morning, the girls got to wake up for play time and breakfast with cousins!!
Big cousin Mr. L, in the background, was very happy to have cousin playmates for March Break!
And Little Mr. J was Mr. Happy pants all the time.
Sweet Little G (who, arguably, will not be Littler than my G much longer considering that I specialize in shorty pants, like me), was so happy to have her cousins around.
Prince George, by most standards, does not count as "going South" for March Break, but for us it was wonderful!
Highs above zero!! The girls couldn't believe their good luck.
Auntie Kelli even whipped up some chocolate chip muffins for the girls, which made her very popular.
And, she had Miss G's O's stocked in the cupboard. What a great auntie!
Donning only their lightly lined fall/spring gear, the girls were able to enjoy the outdoors with Big Cousin L for large portions of the day, with no risk of freezing their skin.
Watching the three of them slide together provided lots of entertainment inside, too!
Right Mr. J? Oh, I could just eat him up. Super J!
These three amigos were fast friends instantly.
And, always the gentleman, Mr. L was a wonderful mini host carrying the sled back to the top of the slope each time.
Mr. J enjoyed all of the excitement inside and out!
Miss G was pretty excited to have Daisy Dog in the back yard! What a good girl, Daisy!
It was so strange for the girls to be outside without their fur hats, down-filled mitts and super MEC snowsuits. Even looking back at these pictures now, it seems weird to me.
Of course, Eli and Emerson got some Big Boy playtime in, too.
They fixed something on Emerson's truck.
It was perfection.
Kelli and I vaguely paid attention to what they fixed, but the moral of the story is they saved money and got to hang out in the man cave.
And, Eli didn't have to wear a parka.
We went swimming, and aside from that, we just plain ol' had fun and bonded.
We would like to dub this the perfect family vacation.
It was awesome. Awesome kids. Awesome grown up conversation. Awesome food. Awesome WestJet. Awesome everything!
Uh-oh. Someone is getting a little wobbly...
Yeah, they can't hold it together any more...
"Is that a marker? Glue!? Woah, baby, I gotta get off this couch and make a mess before Auntie Shanny catches me!"
Speaking of catching... We had two men who spoke of manly things like fishing and hunting the WHOLE time, but I am the one who spotted this deer just outside the fenced in part of the backyard. Me!
Oh, and Daisy, too.
Good girl, Daisy!
It was just before Easter, so Kelli boiled 16 eggs so the kids would decorate them.
It was so fun to watch them be creative and share.
Even Mr. J was in on the action!! Life is good when you are one year old!
Everything at 1000%!
Mini-break to decorate the windows, too!
They had so much fun colouring and dying the eggs, that Kelli boiled another 16 eggs!
We had the kids colour on the eggs while they were still hot with wax crayons, so the colours would melt to make vibrant patterns.
Why get dressed when the fun is at the breakfast table? I mean, that kind of logic should hold true even past March break, don't you think?
I love that tooth gap!
The finished masterpieces!
On the final day, I couldn't resist the temptation any longer, and I turned Mr. J's bib around to turn him into SUPER J!
He was happy to pose for pictures.
Auntie Shanny, and you getting my cute side?
Happy J!
Super J!
Flying in the sky!!
Thank you once again to Emerson and Kelli for the best March Break trip we've taken, and a really wonderful opportunity to let the cousins bond.
Plus, I got a nice break from the Arctic winter and enjoyed a good ol' Canadian March. Ah. It was refreshing.
Daisy joined in...
And, the girls.
